Guwahati to Cherrapunji & Dawki Taxi

The Guwahati–Cherrapunji–Dawki route

Cherrapunji is approximately 160 km from Guwahati via Shillong. The drive takes 5 to 6 hours depending on road conditions and stops. The route passes through Shillong, so most travelers combine Shillong, Cherrapunji and Dawki in a single trip.

The highway from Guwahati to Shillong is a four-lane expressway. Beyond Shillong, the road to Cherrapunji is a two-lane highway with sharp curves and steep sections. An experienced hill-road driver makes a big difference. Avoid driving at night in the hilly sections.

Cherrapunji and Dawki are only about 80 km apart and most travelers cover both in the same trip. A 2 or 3-day itinerary works well: Day 1 — Guwahati to Shillong, Day 2 — Cherrapunji, Day 3 — Dawki and return to Guwahati. One-day express trips are also possible but very rushed.
